For many men and women hair removal can become a very time consuming and laborious task, but this needn’t be the case any longer. Ellipse I2PL have created an Intense Pulse Light Therapy based treatment that drastically reduces and removes unwanted hair.
How does IPL Hair Removal work?
The visible light source used in this procedure is attracted to the melanin, which is found in hair. Because there is more melanin found in darker hair the darker the hair is, the more effective the treatment. During the treatment an optical coupling gel is applied to the skin to aid the treatment. The applicator is then pressed onto the skin and the light energy is absorbed into the hair causing a heat reaction to destroy the follicle. This intense heat action breaks down the hair follicle, reducing the opportunity for any re-growth and also changing the entire structure of the follicle itself; overtime altering the density and appearance of the hair until it becomes unnoticeable.
Prior to the treatment the area is shaved and then a thin layer of protective gel is applied to aid the treatment to maximize absorption, this is then followed by the Ellipse I2PL applicator being run over the area and the light pulse being filtered through to the hair follicle. The unique square head technology used in Ellipse treatments offer precision and accuracy that ensures that any risk of side effects is minimal. Any potentially harmful wave lengths are removed via the Unique Dual Filtering system, meaning that the light used is completely safe and visible.

Frequently Asked Questions
Number of Hair Removal Treatments
Hair grows in three different cycles, the ellipse permanent hair reduction can only successfully work if the hair is treated during its growth cycle. It is therefore recommended to undergo a course of 3-6 treatments ensuring that you leave at least 4- 6 weeks between each session initially and then only repeat treatment as and when hair returns.
Preparing for Hair Removal
It is important that no other method of hair removal is undertaken prior to booking your appointment and during the course of the treatment as this can affect the succession of the treatment. The same rule applies to any sun treatments, as a tan will raise the pigment level in the skin and have a severe effect on the treatments’ success.
Does it hurt?
The treatment sensation varies from area to area and from client to client. As the light energy is absorbed by melanin, the sensation that is felt depends on upon the amount of melanin found in the epidermis and the hairs. Most clients describe the sensation as quite moderate almost like the snapping of a rubber band, which only lasts for a short moment.
